Danobat inaugurates Danobat Railway Systems’ new plant

The new plant in Bergara, occupying 10.000 m2, inaugurated on 28 September last, and which has cost 12 million euros, represents a clear commitment on the part of Danobat Railway Systems to becoming one of the world leaders in the supply of machines and turnkey production equipment for the railway and high value-added engineering services sector.

With this plant built in record time, DRS clearly has a competitive advantage, as it now has the ideal conditions for building, fine tuning and validating large-scale projects. The new plant currently has an initial skilled workforce of 65 people. The forecasts are for strong growth in activity, with a gradual increase in the workforce, which could total 200 people within three years, thereby meeting the Group’s commitment to create highly skilled local employment.

The Danobat Group has important clients in the railway sector like Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom and Lucchini, which it has historically supplied with lathes and grinding machines for axles and milling machines for bogie chassis, as well as machinery for maintaining bogie components, with a number of projects underway at Renfe, the Madrid Metro, Tram System in Vitoria and Seville, the Mexico City and Algiers Metros, etc.

The company’s capacity for innovation stands out, as it benefits from the skilled backing of its own Technology Centre, Ideko and annual investment in R&D&i that is forecast to exceed 7% over sales, which will enable DRS to continue to launch high value-added solutions onto the market. It also stands out for its international dimension, with special attention being paid to markets with a big future like India (with DRS India recently set up), China and Russia, with sales offices set up in these countries by the Danobat Group.

Danobat also presented the line built for TVSZ, currently the most advanced in the world.

The line built for the Russian firm T.V.S.Z., has cost 63 million euros and is the biggest order in the history of Spanish machine-tools. It has been built in a record time of 14 months, and is currently being fine-tuned before being sent to TVSZ’s plant in St Petersburg, the biggest manufacturer of goods wagons in the country.

When it comes into operation, this line, which is fully automated and robot-controlled, will be the most advanced in the world as, in addition to machining the parts (axle, wheels, upper chassis), it also inspects and measures all the components. The parts emerge fully checked in terms of quality and features, without the need for operator intervention, except for maintenance and control.

Its production capacity is 50,000 components a year, which means that every four minutes a fully machined and checked component comes off the line; this includes the wagon axle, with the wheels, bearings and upper chassis. Danobat Railway Systems has brought its skilled engineering to the design and manufacture of its machines and the integration of the 25 high technology machines making up the line, which have been mostly manufactured by the Danobat Group, with the participation of specialist equipment suppliers from Germany, Canada and Israel.
