Entrepreneurs Karmel Onandia of ONA Electro-erosión and José Miguel Lanzagorta of Norbega, together with the biotechnology company Progenika, received their prizes in Bilbao at the encounter “La Cita de la Empresa Vasca” organised by Caja Laboral and EITB. Igualatorio Médico Quirúrgico also received the organisation’s special prize.

The awards were handed over yesterday afternoon at the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum. This year’s jury members were José María Vázquez Eguskiza, Juan José Azurmendi and Eduardo Zubiaurre, the presidents of Cebek, SEA-Empresarios Alaveses and Adegi respectively, and last year’s award winners.

The “Toda una vida empresarial” award for an entire business career went to Karmel Onandia, the president and a founder-member of ONA Electro-erosión. Created in 1952, ONA Electro-erosión has been a pioneer in the development of electro-erosion technologies.

The jury decided to award the Euskal Manager prize to José Miguel Lanzagorta, of Norbega, the Galdakao Coca-Cola bottling plant employing almost 400 people. Lanzagorta is the managing director of Norinvest, the group Coca-Cola has belonged to since 1989, and he also manages several other companies and has shares in different bottling firms in Spain and Africa. The award for Entrepreneurial Innovation went to the Basque biotechnology company Progenika, a reference point in the pharmaceutical product sector. Igualatorio Médico Quirúrgico received the Makila award, with which the organisers publicly acknowledge the person, institution or company whose activity has most contributed to “the economic and social development of the Basque Country and its enterprises”, regardless of their origin or place of residence.
