Kondia advances in micro machining with a centre for dental prosthesis manufacture

The firm will be have two stands at the upcoming Bilbao Biemh .

Machining centre manufacturers Kondia have stepped up their innovation activity with the aim of creating new solutions and components for sectors such as the automotive industry and the health sector. Their R+D+I programme has been backed by the Basque Government, who have approved four of their projects as part of the 2009 Innotek and Taitek programmes.

Guipúzcoa-based Kondia is working on several innovative projects with which it aims to diversify its target sectors and increase its range of products. In this line, its R+D+I department has focused its first activity on the creation of a range of 5-axis machining centres called Five 400. The model has evolved from the Seaska machine, launched in 2008, with increased precision, repetition and impermeability ranges. The Kondia staff will be presenting the unit at the Biemh trade show in May, although they have already supplied two machines for parts of up to 400 mm through their dealer in Germany. The company will also have a second stand at the Bilbao fair after the agreement signed with the Italian firm Andrea, which will be presenting its new mandrels for vertical boring and turning. Demonstrations will be made on a Kondia A-10 unit with moving bolster.

Another of Kondia’s lines of diversification focuses on using the modular design of their units to create special machines by combining bedplates, uprights and several different heads. The configuration of these cells has led to a series of developments that will enable a Burgos-based group of automotive companies to manufacture catalytic converter flanges and shafts, for example, at both their Spanish plant and the factory they work with in Eastern Europe.

Lastly, in the micro machining area, Kondia is carrying out research in areas ranging from the creation of machining centres and components to the design of tools and strategies. These activities include advances in the design of the first prototype for manufacturing dental prostheses from a mould, which the firm will be presenting this year. This type of machines are currently only manufactured in Germany and Japan.
