Soraluce opens its new plant for producing large, powerful milling and boring machines

The Cooperative SORALUCE, which forms part of the Danobat Group and belongs to the MONDRAGON Corporation, has just opened its new Plant IV, representing a major step forward in the development of large, powerful milling-boring machines and catering for the growing demand for large part machining.

The new plant is a decisive bid for the future in times of major crisis. It positions SORALUCE at the forefront of its sector and will enable new qualified jobs to be created when the current difficulties have been overcome.

An investment of 5 million euros has been made in this new plant. It has a working surface area of 2000 sqm, with a length of 122 metres and a height of 21 metres, and will enable large-sized machines with vertical travel of up to 9 metres to be built.

The plant opened today fully responds to the three main strategic challenges defined in SORALUCE’s strategic plan for 2009-2012:

→ Extension of the product range and the range of milling and boring heads.

→ Development of customer sectors, particularly the wind power and rail sectors.

→ Development of new geographical markets, giving a strong impulse to Russia and India in particular.

In 2008, SORALUCE achieved a turnover of 118 million euros, a 29% increase on last year’s figures, and 92% of this corresponded to international sales. It has a staff of 232 people.

The Danobat Group, to which Soraluce belongs, is the leading Spanish machine tool manufacturing company. Its most representative products are grinding machines, lathes, milling centres, machining centres, flexible machining lines, punching and folding machines, special machines and transfer presses.

The Group employs a total of 1300 people, almost 200 of whom work at its production plants and regional offices abroad. In 2008 it achieved a consolidated turnover of 272 million euros.

The Danobat Group Cooperatives are characterised by the great importance they attach to innovation in developing their business lines. All of them have collaboration plans with the Technology Centre Ideko, working together on medium- and long-term projects. At present, 53% of the orders received by the Danobat Group Cooperatives are for new products.
